AXA announces new professional indemnity insurance heads

France-based insurer AXA recently announced several new heads of its insurance operations.  Included in the new names are Francois Pierson as operational head of personal and commercial insurance, Nicolas Moreau as AXA France’s new CEO, and Paul Evans in place as CEO of AXA UK.  All the new appointments will go into effect on 1 October, 2010.

Mr Pierson, has served as both CEO and chairman of AXA France for nine years, currently serves as a member of the insurer’s management committee, and has been global head of its personal and commercial insurance operations since January of this year.  He has been in charge of setting goals for the company, defining its strategies, and has been responsible for the management of converging the operations of AXA’s  property and casualty divisions.  In his new role, he will be directly responsible for the management of several AXA divisions, including AXA Canada, AXA Assistance, AXA Global Direct, and the company’s business liability insurance division,AXA Corportate Solutions.

AXA UK’s CEO since 2006, Mr Moreau also currently serves as a member of the firm’s management committee, and is responsible for AXA’s health insurance, property and casualty, and life and savings insurance operations in Ireland and the UK.

Mr Evans, who is replacing Mr Moreau as chief executive of AXA UK, currently serves as deputy CEO.  In addition to being responsible for overseeing operations of the firm’s life and savings insurance programmes since 2003, he will also be joining AXA’s committee of management executives.

CEO and chairman  of AXA, Henri de Castries, released a statement accompanying the announcement of its new management structure, saying the firm’s P&C insurance operations worldwide will benefit greatly from  Mr Pierson’s vision and experience, adding that he has been an exemplary chief executive for AXA’s France division.

Speaking of Mr Moreau, de Castries stated that Moreau has demonstrated excellent leadership abilities and sharp insight throughout his 19 years at AXA.  de Castries was convinced that Moreau will put his extensive knowledge of AXA and its core values to great success with AXA France’s development, and that he will continue to bring improvements to the services AXA provides to the nine million clients it services.

de Castries concluded by welcoming Mr Evans to the executive management committee, stating that his role has been pivotal in AXA UK’s life insurance operations.  de Castries was confident that Mr Evans will excel in his new responsibilities.
