Brit Insurance promotes Cox to head of its business insurance unit

In a recent press release, Brit Insurance Holdings NV announced that Ray Cox has been promoted to become the new chief executive officer for their UK business insurance division, the Strategic Business Unit.

Mr Cox’s promotion goes into effect on September 1st of this year, when he will join the UK insurer’s commercial insurance arm’s executive management committee and report directly to Dane Douetil, chief executive officer for the entire business group.

An industry veteran with over three decades of experience in the British business liability insurance markets, Mr Cox has been working with Brit Insurance since 2006 in a management capacity as one of the underwriting directors of its Strategic Business Unit.  Prior to the time spent with Brit Insurance, Mr Cox was heavily involved in a supervisory capacity for RSA where he was also an underwriting director in addition to being involved in risk management for the British business insurer.

Mr Cox replaces former chief executive officer Peter Burrows, who will work closely with his successor until he officially retires from the company at the end of this year.  Mr Burrows announced his retirement at the end of last year, stepping down from his active leadership role in the UK Strategic Business Unit, instead serving as its executive chairman as the search for his replacement was underway.

Brit Insurance is a major global insurance and reinsurance provider, offering over 70 different classes of business insurance coverage worldwide, including professional indemnity insurance coverage. Comprised of three major strategic units, Brit Insurance does business with a Global Markets Unit and a Reinsurance Unit in addition to its UK Strategic Business Unit.  Jonathan Turner is chief executive officer of the Reinsurance unit for Brit Insurance, and the Global Markets Unit is led by chief executive officer Matthew Wilson.
