BMS appoints new professional liability insurance executive

BMS has announced the appointment of their new executive vice president, Theresa Schugel.  Ms Schugel will be leading the firm’s worldwide casualty practice.

BMS specialises in several different specialty casualty areas, including workers compensation matters, professional liability insurance, professional liability for medical professionals, and other classes of general professional liability law.

Ms Schugel has four years of experience with Aon Benfield prior to her new appointment.  In her previous role she was the firm’s lawyers professional indemnity and global healthcare leader.  She also has experience as a specific account global team leader.

Ms Schugel has also served as chief executive officer of Paragon Strategic Solutions, which is a Benfield subsidiary.  Prior to that role she led one of Benfield’s national healthcare origination teams.

Ms Schugel also has extensive medical services experience from her 14 years with the St Paul.  There she was the ceded reinsurance buyer for all business liability insurance lines.

BMS Associates CEO Carl Beardmore commented on the hiring of Ms Schugel.  He stated that the new appointment is significant due to the sanding and calibre of Ms Schugel as she has gained recognition as one of the most influential business insurance practitioners currently working today. Mr Beardmore also stated that Ms Schugel will surely continue to drive expansion in the firm’s overseas market in the US by building on her existing experience and reputation.

Ms Schugel is slated to begin her work for BMS out of the firm’s  Minneapolis, Minnesota-based US offices.
