Specialist insurer Hiscox announced the appointment of both Samantha Newman and Ann Meaden to the positions of emerging professional indemnity head and senior development underwriter respectively.
Ms Newman’s new responsibilities include aiding in the development of the insurer’s presence in sectors traditionally untouched by Hiscox such as estate agents and environmental consultants. Ms Newman, who will be based in London and report to professions and specialty commercial head John Heaney, will also be tasked for charity sector business development as well.
Ms Newman has done work previously for PepsiCo, Mars Confectionery, and Procter & Gamble. Her most recent position had been sales director for BBC Worldwide subsidiary BBC Audiobooks.
Ms Meaden has more than 10 years of experience working for insurer AIG. Most recently she successfully set up a production service industry scheme for Brit Insurance. She will be reporting to David Henderson, a regional manager, and will be based out of the Bristol region.
Commenting on the new appointments, Mr Heany stated that Hiscox has aggressive goals in place to grow both the range and the volume of its commercial risk underwriting business while also continuing to provide properly-priced cover for its clients.
Mr Heany stated that Ms Newman brings with her to Hiscox a sales CV that is impressive and one that will doubtlessly aid in the firm’s targeting of emergent and new professions while additionally allowing it to sharpen its charity sector focus. He additionally stated that the firm’s south west region presence will be strengthened even further by Bristol’s Ms Meadon as Hiscox seeks to grow its commercial risk regional book.
