Law firm welcomes new professional indemnity litigator

One international law firm recently welcomed its newest professional indemnity litigator Simon Gildener.

Formerly general counsel for Lloyds of London broker Howden, Mr Gildener offered his legal advice to both the broker and its clients on points of complex business insurance cover issues.  Mr Gildener joined Howden from Robin Simon, an insurance litigation boutique in September of 2009.  Now he joins international law firm Clyde & Co as a commercial insurance cover defense law specialist.

When asked what prompted his move to Clyde, Mr Gildener stated that he was motivated by a desire to make a return to private practice.  Remarking that he missed his old life as a litigator, the move to Clyde will enable him to be back ‘on the front lines,’ which differs from the advisory role he played at Howden.

Mr Gildener stated that while he enjoyed his time at Howden, he felt limited as to what kinds of activities he could engage in as a legal adviser and board member.  He added that he missed being able to get his hands dirty, which led to his move to Clyde & Co.

Mr Gildener will join the international law firm’s London-based insurance team as a partner.  The lawyer qualified at the New York bar 8 years ago in 2003.

Victor Rae-Reeves, Clyde & Co partner, commented on the new appointment.  He stated that Mr Gildener will be focusing on defence work for professional liability insurance cases.  His particular focus will be on directors and officers, financial institutions, and errors and omissions insurance work, stated Mr Rae-Reeves.

Mr Gildener stated that he has plans to maintain a strong and positive relationship with Howden. A successor is currently being pursued to fill the void left by Mr Gildener’s departure from the Lloyd’s of London broker.
