Canopius Group establishes retail commercial insurance division

One underwriting business specialising in insurance and reinsurance has recently announced the establishment of a retail commercial insurance business division in the UK.

Canopius Group’s new UK retail business insurance division will include specialist vehicle, commercial, and personal motor cover; casualty, including professional indemnity and accident & health insurance; commercial combined for the small business sector, specialist niche/property personal lines; and household insurance.

The insurance provider remarked that the new UK retail unit will also serve as an interface between K Drewe/ Look Insurance and Arista Insurance, the distribution channels for the group.

Canopius announced that the UK retail business chief executive role will be filled by Mr Tim Rolfe.  In his new position, the major priority for Mr Rolfe will be the implementation of strategies that were developed by him as Canopius’ UK Retail Strategy head.  The new chief executive will also be responsible for driving profitable growth across all channels and classes of the retail group, with specialist business receiving an increasing emphasis over time and will be reporting to Jim Giordano, chief underwriting officer for the group.

In the wake of this restructure, Canopius Group’s KGM Motor division chief executive, Mr Colin Hart, will take leave of the group.  Subject to approval by Lloyd’s, Mr Niel Manvell will become Syndicate 260’s active underwriter.

Michael Watson, chairman for Canopius, remarked that bringing together the group’s UK distribution and underwriting businesses into a single entity, led by chief executive Tim Rolfe, will enable the company to leverage its existing capabilities to the fullest.    Mr Watson also commented that the new structure will allow the focus to be placed upon the delivery of specialist products that meet the needs of the group’s target customers.
