Ageas announces new commercial insurance underwriting head

One business liability insurance provider recently announced that it has appointed Roy Watkinson to the newly created position of head of commercial insurance underwriting and pricing.

Mr Watkinson’s new responsibilities in his specially created position at Ageas include management and leadership responsibilities for more than 100 staff members.  Moreover, the newly appointed underwriting and pricing head will implement a new strategic commercial programme for Ageas through the fostering of stronger relationships with brokers, underwriting, and effective pricing, according to professional indemnity insurance experts.

Mr Watkinson, who brings to his post more than three decades of experience within the industry, will assume his new duties starting from 1 August.  The new Ageas commercial head will be reporting directly to Adam Clarke, director of underwriting for Ageas.

Mr Clarke commented on how pleased he was to announce Mr Watkinson’s appointment in light of his extensive prior experience working previously as a technical and commercial underwriting director for Axa Insurance.  The underwriting director also highlighted how the appointment of Mr Watkinson showcased Ageas and its commitment to the growth of its commercial insurance offering.

Mr Clarke further commented that the newly appointed Mr Watkinson would be joining a management team that, while already strong, would still reap the benefits of his extensive expertise in commercial and technical insurance pricing and underwriting endeavours.

A multinational insurer based in Brussels, Belgium, Ageas is one of the largest insurance providers in Europe.  Previously known as Fortis Holding in the wake of the worldwide banking crisis and resultant economic downturn, the firm’s shareholders voted to re-brand itself as Ageas in 2010 after the sale of its Netherlands-based Fortis-banded banking arm to BNP Paribas.
