One firm from the Isle of Man has recently announced the appointment of commercial insurance expert Brian O’Connor as the new head of its General Insurance Division.
Mr O’Connor has been appointed by Island Financial Services to the position of insurance manager and will be tasked with developing custom tailored programmes for firms and organisations native to the Isle of Man that have dependencies on many different kinds of commercial insurance products, such as professional indemnity as well as cover for public liability. Mr O’Connor, who brings considerable experience within the commercial insurance market with him, will be focusing on forging new and reinforcing existing business ties with business service providers, trusts, and commercial property owners, with a particular emphasis on organisations within the aviation and marine fields.
The new IFS division will not only be focusing on these areas but will also be looking to strengthen links with other Manx niche industries. The markets IFS will be branching out into include eGaming, eCommerce, motor insurance, and personal household cover.
Mr O’Connor, a native Manxman, initiated his career at Scottish Provident International in 2000 where he rose up the ranks to become a Relationship Manager there. He has also worked with Marsh (Isle of Man) Ltd for the past two years, where he led a team of client advisers, focusing particularly on professional indemnity along with commercial property and marine sectors.
Working towards Chartered Insurer status from the Chartered Insurance Institute, Mr O’Connor is an Associate of the Institute for Chartered Investments and Securities. He also holds the Certificate in Insurance from CII and is one of only a few insurance specialists working in the Isle of Man marketplace to be a recipient of the London Market Certificate.
